A Brief Guide to Auto Warranties

When purchasing a new or used car, one of the main decisions you have to make concerns the warranty or warranties you want to purchase. At first, they might all sound like a good idea – you know, just to make sure you are covered. But some of them may be unnecessary depending on your specific situation. Here is a quick guide to some common auto warranties and what they are designed to cover.

Basic Warranty
These types of warranties generally cover everything on your vehicle that is not subject to wear and tear. Although these are typically standard warranties, be sure to read it before agreeing to it so there are no surprises in the future.

Extended Warranty
Extended warranties are not as common as basic warranties but they can still be helpful. If you plan on keeping your VW cars or any other brand for that matter longer than the basic warranty covers, you may want to consider an extended warranty. Just be sure to read the coverage and compare the cost before deciding if it’s worth it or not.

Luxury Auto Warranty
This type of warranty covers luxury items within the vehicle, such as a GPS, phone, DVD player and more. These are fine to have, but most items can be replaced for less than the cost of the warranty price over time.

Warranties are sometimes a good idea to consider when purchasing your new Porsche. But before agreeing to any warranty, consider the options and calculate the amount of money you could simply save in a bank account rather than paying towards a warranty. That way, if nothing bad ever happens, you can keep that money and it has even gained interest!

All about the Filters in Your Porsche

The filters in your Porsche help keep your luxury sports car running as optimally as possible. Unfortunately, many drivers forget about the filters under the hood and, as a result, they do not get the fuel efficiency that they could be getting. Pay attention to the following filters and their changing schedule to get even more out of your Porsche.
porsche maintenance

Air Filter – The air filter in your Porsche is vital to removing dirt and other particles that could pass into your sophisticated engine. You should have your Porsche’s air filter replaced every 20,000 miles if you live in an area with normal conditions. Replace it more often if you like in a dry, dusty region. If your air filter looks like it is damaged or dirty, replace it regardless of how many miles you have had it.

Oil Filters – These filters are necessary for removing rust particles, dirt, dust and other pollutants from the oil. As a result, your oil remains clean and runs more efficiently. You should replace your oil filter each time you get your oil changed.

Fuel Filter – Without a fuel filter on your Porsche, dirt and other particles could accumulate in your gas tank and damage various parts of the fuel injection system. To make sure your Porsche continues running efficiently, replace your fuel filter every 30,000 miles or so. This prevents loss of power, hard starting and stalling due to a lack of fuel.

If it’s time to change any of these filters or if you just want a checkup for your Porsche, schedule a service appointment at your Willow Grove, PA area Porsche dealer today!

Monthly Car Maintenance

If you want to keep your car running in perfect shape, there are some basic tasks you need to do on a monthly basis. Taking about fifteen minutes to do some of these basic tasks can save you plenty of headache, not to mention costly repair bills.

Here are some of the things you need to check on a regular basis:

  • Engine Oil. Make sure your car is parked on a level spot and that your engine is off and cooled. Find the oil dipstick. Use a clean rag to wipe off any oil still on the dipstick. Put it back into its receptacle and then take it back out. Make sure that the oil gets to the proper level, and that it’s not dirty or dark.
  • Brake fluid. Check your brake fluid reservoir. Most of the time, the reservoir will be translucent so you can see the level inside.
  • Engine Coolant. Check your radiator overflow tank to make sure that your coolant level is correct.
  • Tires. At least once a month, use a tire gauge to make sure your tires are inflated to the proper level. This will also help your gas mileage and your control of the vehicle.

Check each of these items once a month and you should be able to head off most major issues before they get too bad. If you need service, come and see us right away.

Caring for your Audi Car

If you want to keep your Audi vehicle looking as good as possible, you need to protect your paint job. You need to keep a coat of wax on your car on a regular basis. This coat of wax becomes a sacrificial protectant to your car’s paint job. It protects the polished, clear coated and chromed parts of your vehicle. In addition, wax will help to protect your Audi from other elements, such as ozone, tree sap, road tar and UV rays. On top of all of that, having a coat of wax adds both shine and gloss to your car’s finish.

You’ll find two main types of car wax on the market today: paste and liquid. A paste car wax takes more friction to apply to your Audi. This helps to melt the wax, and to evaporate the solvents in the wax. Liquid wax, on the other hand, tends to have solvents that evaporate on their own.

Prior to waxing your car, you’ll want to give it a good wash job. Get rid of all of the bugs, road tar and grime that accumulates. If you need to deal with particularly stubborn dirt, use a citrus degreaser or even tar remover. Apply the wax sparingly with a terry cloth sponge or cotton cloth. Work the wax into the car until you see a slight haze, then let it dry. Make sure you buff your car to get rid of the excess wax, bonding agents and lubricants.

Caring for Your Porsche Tires

The tires on your Porsche vehicle are not only an important part of how your car gets down the road, they are also a part of your Porsche style and image. Keeping your tires and wheels clean is just one way to make sure your Porsche is the envy of everyone you know.

It’s important, first, to understand how wheels get dirty. The main source of dirt and grime on your wheels is brake dust. Brake pad adhesive is at the root of most of the wheel dirt problems. When that adhesive residue gets wet, it can etch your wheels. In addition, the metal filings of your brakes become hot during braking and may burn tiny holes in the finish of your wheels. You might also find small droplets that look like tar from the road on your wheels, which is probably re-polymerized adhesive.

Choose the least aggressive way to clean your wheels. Start with a car wash detergent to see if that does the trick. If that doesn’t get your Porsche tires lean, you can try a tire cleaner. Some of the more popular brands tend to be acidic and can affect the finish on your wheels, so be careful here. Try to find a wheel cleaner that is pH balanced.

Driving Green in your Porsche

Just because you have one of the best performance cars on the planet doesn’t mean you’re not concerned about the planet. There are things you can do every day in the way you drive your Porsche and the way you take care of your Porsche to help out the environment around you.

One thing you can do to drive green in your Porsche is to keep your engine running at peak performance. When a spark plug is misfiring, for example, you can lose as much as a third of your fuel effeciency. Replacing fluids and filters are all part of this, as well. Keep up on your regular maintenance schedule. It not only keeps your Porsche running smooth, it helps the environment.

You should also keep your tires inflated and aligned. As you probably know, just a few pounds of tire pressure low can make your engine work harder and use more gas. The same is true when your wheels are misaligned. Properly inflated tires also last longer, and in the long run mean fewer old tires that have to be scrapped.

You should also drive with gas use in mind. Try to avoid accelerating suddenly, and avoid speeding. Both of these practices make your engine work harder, use more gas, and cause more wear and tear on your vehicle.
