If you missed the Emmy Awards this year, you can get a list of winners and nominees on another website. But what you can’t get is a recap of how many times the Audi brand was given airtime on national television. In fact, Audi cars got almost as much attention and publicity as the show’s host – Neil Patrick Harris (or NPH, as we like to call him).

In a great PR move, Audi sent 25 chauffeur-driven Q7 SUVs to take the celebrities from the awards show to the various parties around town. Officials were hoping the paparazzi would capture several pictures of cars stepping out of the Q7s with the Audi brand in plain sight. One star – Joel McHale of The Soup and NBC’s new hit Community – was caught stepping out of a Q7 TDI with his beautiful wife, Sarah. Other stars seen in Audi brand SUVs included Chris O’Donnell, Vanessa Williams and Jeremy Piven, among others.

In addition to all the attention at the Emmys, Audi has also provided these clean-burning SUVs to celebrities on both coasts. Some celebrities like the vehicles so much that they have purchased one for themselves. LL Cool J did that and others have, too.

Audi has successfully become the first automaker to create and develop its own virtual space within Sony’s PlayStation Home. Known as “Audi Space,” this new virtual feature will be available beginning later this year and it will include an Audi-related TV channel with all kinds of video content about the German brand.

In December, makers of Audi Space plan to expand into a Vertical Run. This is going to be a “futuristic racing game featuring Audi’s e-tron concept,” according to an article at Cnet.com. In the game, racers will collect as much electrical energy as they can and race for the highest possible speed.

“Most young people gain their first driving experience from video games,” explained Kai Mensing with Audi’s Online Marketing. “With the Audi space, we can bring this target group into contact with our brand in a highly emotion-packed and interactive environment, and demonstrate our ‘Vorsprung durch Technik’ with the virtual e-tron race.’”

The luxury automaker isn’t stopping there, either. Those involved with the project plan to add even more content to Audi Space in 2010 and probably beyond. It’s a great way to get the name out there to the gamers who will be driving soon and it is great exposure for the Audi brand.

We have all heard the term “luxury vehicle” when talking about brands like Porsche and Audi. But what does that term actually mean? Porsche has plans to bring the Porsche Cayenne hybrid to the United States next year, but the German automaker also has a diesel version of the crossover that may or may not make it to this market.

Officials at Porsche said they would bring the diesel version of the crossover to the United States if they found at least 20 percent of Cayenne buyers were interested in it. That would be enough buyers to justify the cost of meeting America’s pollution standards, according to Michael Leiters, the project manager for this particular Porsche model. The diesel-powered Porsche Cayenne gets 240 horsepower, reaches speeds of more than 130 miles per hour and gets at least 30 miles to the gallon on the highway in European testing. That’s nearly 30 percent better than the V6 gas-powered version!

Porsche may have a long road ahead of them trying to convince Americans that diesel engines are an eco-friendly alternative to hybrids. Many American car buyers are still under the notion that diesel engines are gas guzzlers and they are not as clean as traditional engines and much dirtier than the hybrid engines. But diesel engines have come a long way since those days and the Porsche Cayenne is proof of that.
