Remembering the Porsche 959

If you’re a Porsche enthusiast, you probably know the Porsche 959. The 959 was the most advanced sports car ever built by Porsche at the time. It featured a 2.8 liter flat six cylinder twin turbo engine paired with a six speed manual. It had all wheel drive, antilock brakes and a double wishbone suspension.

The height of the car could be adjusted from inside the cockpit, allowing the driver to lower the height of the vehicle based on whether they were driving on the highway or on choppy pavement.

There are many curious stories about the Porsche 959 development. The chief engineer delayed the release because they wanted to get it just right, for example. It was also built to be sold legally and driven on public roads.

The Porsche 959 could do go from zero to 60 in 3.6 seconds. It had a top speed of 197 miles per hour. It origially sold for around $225,000, but today a used 959 in decent shape will go for around $375,000 or more.
